Thin sleeves to insulate screws (no more tape)
-
Hey Everyone. I designed and printed some PLA sleeves to go over M6 screws so that you don't need to use tape on the screws anymore with the kit. The tape is often hard to properly wrap around and imo has to be changed quite often, so this should improve the design. I printed these on a Prusa Core One using a 0.4mm diameter nozzle. The screws don't come into contact with active material, so you can use PLA for this (doesn't have to be PP, although this should also work).
You can get the STL here:
You can print these in "vase mode" so that you have no stitching marks. Let me know what your experience is with other printers!

Nice, great idea! I'll try to print then this week. Are they compatible with the existing pieces?
@sepi Yes, they are compatible with existing pieces. They are thin enough to fit into the current screw holes.

@danielfp248 I finally managed to try the sleeve. Unfortunately I didn't manage to get a working version. I tried the original file with 0,16mm layer height and 0,4mm width. This was too narrow to fit the screw. I then scaled the sleeve ever so slightly to make things fit and reduced the print width and increased the height to 0,4mm. I managed to fit the screw by screwing it into the sleeve thereby forming a slight thread. Unfortunately now it was almost impossible to fit the sleeve through my cell.
I think for this to work well, we would need to very slightly adjust the different templates to add a bit of clearance. As I'm a bit to lazy to rework all the pieces, I'll stick to tape for now.

@sepi Thanks for trying this. I understand what you mean, I had similar issues when I tried to do this before. The main issue is that the fit is quite tight, so depending on the resolution of both the sleeve and the hole on the endplate, you can have too low of a tolerance for it to work. The easiest fix is probably to increase the size of the holes on the endplate around 0.25mm, so that this works regardless of the printer. We will make the modification on the official endplate exported files so that this approach works more easily.
